Networking--Five ways to end a conversation
Sometimes the hardest part of networking is not starting a conversation, it's ending one gracefully while leaving the option of future contact open. Remember, it takes about six contacts before someone knows who you are and where you fit into the marketplace. With practice, your networking becomes strategic and focused on long-term results. Here are five tips:  1)  Refer to your agenda.  "I came here today determined to find someone who's working with this new software I just got. I'm going to see if I can find someone. Good to meet you."  2)  Offer a great connection.  "Karen also went to the University of Chicago. Let me introduce you to her."  3)  Ask for an introduction.  "Do you know anyone here tonight who's also involved in the venture capital world?"  4)  Create a next step.  "I don't want to monopolize your time here tonight. But, I'd like to hear more. Can we arrange to meet later this week?"  5)  Appreciate your contact. It was wonderful to meet you and hear about the trade show."
