The Bolingbrook Chamber of Commerce & Industry

Volume 53                                                                    OCTOBER  1999

Dear Members:

It was great to see so many of our members out at Hidden Lakes for the Member Appreciation Picnic.  We served over 140 hamburgers, hot dogs and sausages.  I wonder if Tony Marquez will ever want to look at another sausage .  He did a great job and we all appreciate his efforts.  Hats off to the rest of the Board of Directors for their help.  We had a beautiful day and are now busy planning the Holiday Event in December.

We are looking forward to the Job Fair on Oct. 2nd at the Holiday Inn.  I would like to send my appreciation to the Job Fair Committee for their efforts in this event.

We're pushing the Night Golf event for Friday, October 15th.  If you are a golfer, you just can't miss this evening of laughs.  What a great time for the new golfer to get out for a few holes.  It's going to be dark, so no one can see too much of what you're doing.  Over the last two years this event has grown from 20 golfers to 40 last year.  I'd like to see us double that  number of 40 number for this year.  It's too early to put the clubs away.

Please call the office and reserve your space for the October luncheon sponsored by
Family Funeral Care.  You're not going to want to miss Merlin Swanson an Inspirational Humorist.

Sincerely,

Peg Kenyon
Executive Director

PLANNING
MEETING HELD
by Wayne Kwiat Sr., President

What follows is your board's design for 1999-2000.
Before establishing goals we discovered the SIX ELEMENTS of a successful Chamber of Commerce.

FIRST:  There must be a mission statement.  Our Mission Statement was reviewed and I wanted to reiterate it here for you.  The Mission of the Bolingbrook
Chamber of Commerce is to foster a competitive enterprise system of business and to promote the growth and development of our

business communityThe Board agreed that we have been doing the fostering and nurturing of the business community, and again re-committed to carry this mission forward in some new and creative ways.
SECOND: There must be a specific plan of action.  The Board must establish both long range and short range plans.

THIRD: We must have adequate funding. Our Chamber continues to experience the benefits of the robust growth here in Bolingbrook.
FOURTH: The Board must have committed leaders.  All the board members were in attendance and have shown exceptional dedication to their roles.
FIFTH: Every Chamber needs good and competent professional staff.  I know that every member would agree that Peg and Joyce, indeed, fulfill this element in every conceivable way.
SIXTH: The results for the Chamber are its accomplishments. We have and continue to have activities and net
